Difficulty System

Difficulty System Progression

With the Difficulty System you choose your personal difficulty tier: Normal, Hard, Insane, Nightmare, or Hell. Higher tiers make monsters stronger, but also increase your rewards.

  • Normal is always available.
  • Higher tiers are unlocked by reaching specific Reborn milestones (see table below).
  • In parties, a higher-tier player can upgrade a monster for everyone but rewards still depend on your own tier.

Simple rule for rewards:
You only get higher-tier rewards if the monster is actually upgraded and you yourself have that difficulty set to that tier. So you cannot receive Hell rewards from a monster that only became Hard.

Tier Reborn Required What it means
Normal 0+ Always available. Default gameplay.
Hard 1+ Unlocked after your first Reborn.
Insane 2+ Unlocked at Reborn 2.
Nightmare 3+ Unlocked at Reborn 3.
Hell 4+ Unlocked at Reborn 4.
How monsters upgrade Monster Tier

Monsters start as Normal. A monster only becomes Hard/Insane/Nightmare/Hell when it is hit by a player using that difficulty.

  • Monsters start at Normal by default.
  • If a higher-tier player hits the monster, the monster can upgrade to that tier.
  • A monster tier can only go up while it is alive (it resets when the monster dies).
  • In parties, this is shared: one Hell player can upgrade the monster even if others are on lower tiers.

Example:
You are on Hard, but a Hell player hits the monster and upgrades it to Hell.
You will still get Hard rewards (because that is your chosen tier).

Tier multipliers

Below are the general multipliers per difficulty tier. Higher tiers increase monster HP/Damage and also increase XP/Loot.

Tier Monster HP Monster Damage XP Loot Notes
Normal x1.00 x1.00 x1.00 x1.00 Default gameplay.
Hard x2.00 x2.00 x1.30 x1.30 Bonus rewards apply when the monster is at least Hard-tier.
Insane x3.00 x3.00 x1.60 x1.60 Bonus rewards apply when the monster is at least Insane-tier.
Nightmare x4.00 x4.00 x1.90 x1.90 Bonus rewards apply when the monster is at least Nightmare-tier.
Hell x5.00 x5.00 x2.20 x2.20 Bonus rewards apply when the monster is Hell-tier.
Exclusive Loot Extra Drops

On higher difficulties you can also get Exclusive Loot. This is extra loot rolled separately from the monsters normal loot. It is always bonus loot (on top of normal drops and on top of the loot multiplier will be adjusted once its live with feedback).

  • Default Exclusive Loot: extra drops for all regular monsters per tier.
  • Boss Exclusive Loot: extra drops for bosses/reward bosses per tier.
  • Specific monsters/bosses: some have their own exclusive loot table.

Monster Icons Visual

The icon above a monster shows the monster tier (what it has become because of player with the highest tier hits), not your personal tier. In parties, a Hell player can upgrade the monster, while lower-tier players still receive rewards based on their own difficulty.
